Hello Readers,
This post is to actively seek your help. I am interested to know if any of you can think of examples from history when a society has attempted to make the transition from a capitalist to socialist economy. The best example I can think of is Cuba's transition from Batista to Castro, but skepticism exists over Cuba's true economic structure under Batista, who often toyed with notions of socialism and capitalistm simultaneously. I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.
Best,

You may want to look at the economies of European countries- they seem to pride themselves on their socialist economies. You may have to go back a hundred years of more, but they probably had significant transitions way back when. I mean, there's a huge jump from feudal lords to socialist economies, right?
ReplyDeleteI need to disagree with "yallaimshi":
ReplyDeleteEuropean countries that experienced socialism (Poland, Czech, Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, former Yugoslavia) definitely do not pride themselves in their socialist past. Socialism was imposed there by the dominance hungry Soviet Union. It was the Soviet Union, Russia to be precise, that transitioned itself from the feudal system straight into Communism. Russia did not experience capitalism which add to its paradox. So, to answer your question, I cannot think of any examples where a society would voluntarily try transition from Capitalism to Socialism. Other way around? Yes.
